Program Description
We are living through a critical moment in U.S. history, seeing in real-time new challenges and unprecedented cruelty within immigration enforcement. Families are being targeted based on their skin color, language, and physical appearance. The government has removed “safe spaces” such as hospitals, churches, and schools where ICE used to not be able to enter.

SRIC invited participants to join us to “follow the money” and learn about how ICE is funded—including how our taxpayer funds are being used instead of funding other critical programs like SNAP and Head Start. The program explored costs, examples, and testimonies from our local and national communities. As investors, individuals, and organizations, we have a renewed urgency to come together and speak up and speak out.

This year, we were honored to celebrate Sister Veronica Cahill, SHSp, as the recipient of SRIC’s Citizen Advocate Excellence Award. Over the years, Sister Veronica has generously shared her time, wisdom, and leadership with our community, particularly during her service as SRIC’s Board Chair. Her deep belief in the power of responsible investment has helped shape SRIC into the strong and hopeful voice it is today.

We were also proud to recognize the Sisters of the Holy Spirit and Mary Immaculate for their faithful partnership and support. From the early days of Texas CRI and Camino a la Paz to the ongoing work of SRIC, the Sisters have been integral to this journey. Their dedication to shareholder advocacy and their commitment to those marginalized reflect a profound devotion to justice, peace, and care for our common home.

We are grateful as well to our featured speakers: Yvonne Dilling, SRIC Member and retired Mission Education Animator with Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers; Sister Susan Mika, OSB, Director of the Benedictine Coalition for Responsible Investment (BCRI) and SRIC Board Secretary; and Brianna Dimas, Managing Director of Communications at Public Justice. Their expertise and thoughtful reflections enriched our conversation and deepened our shared understanding of the human and financial costs of immigration enforcement.
